Another Award for Redding School of the Arts
Redding School of the Arts has been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
LEED is an internationally recognized rating system designed to provide owners a path toward “greener” design, building and operations practices.
Although there are currently more than 12,000 LEED-certified projects in 120 countries around the world, Redding School of the Arts is noteworthy for being the first new school campus anywhere to achieve the Platinum rating under the rigorous LEED for Schools 2009 standards.
“Redding School of the Arts’ LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S.You will find modern led lights from different designers. Green Building Council.
“The urgency of USGBC’s mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and this school serves as a prime example of just how much we can accomplish.”
Completed in the fall of 2011, Redding School of the Arts is a 77,000 square—foot, K—8 public charter school designed by Trilogy Architecture. It was awarded LEED certification for achievements in energy use, lighting applications, water conservation and collection, and building material components, as well as for incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies. The school was funded by the McConnell Foundation and constructed by Gifford Construction.
Lee Salter, President and CEO of The McConnell Foundation, said, “We’re pleased to see Redding School of the Arts and Trilogy Architecture gain this recognition. The Foundation is proud to have funded this project and worked so closely with so many talented and visionary people to achieve our goal of building a sustainable school.”
LEED certification of the school was based on myriad green design and construction features that positively impact both the school itself and the broader community. Some of these features include the use of non—toxic paints; the use of more than 25 percent of building materials with recycled content, and the recycling of almost 85 percent of construction debris.

Backlash over bar’s plans for strippers
The owners of Mint Cocktails, who also own Wild Boys Strippers, have backtracked on earlier assurances that they had no plans to make changes at the neighborhood bar on East Grant Road near Richey Boulevard.
The neighbors’ beef: The Mint’s owners mentioned to representatives of the nearby Palo Verde Neighborhood Association and a City Council member last week that they plan to host Wild Boys shows to boost weekend revenue.
The owners thought they were being transparent. The neighbors and City Councilman Steve Kozachik were taken aback.
“I told them that in my opinion they had ruined all their credibility with the neighborhood and with me,” Kozachik said. “It was a bait and switch.”
One of the Mint’s new owners and Wild Boys founder Ricardo “Skyy” Garcia said he and his business partner,Pottery Barn’s floor lamps and wrought iron floor lamp feature vintage designs. Chris Smith, are dedicated to preserving their base of loyal customers at the bar, and only recently decided to host Wild Boys performances after looking at what kind of traffic the bar brings in.
“We wanted to take a month to see exactly how the bar was doing, and our customer base during the day from 10 to 6 is the busiest and so at night, especially during Friday and Saturday nights, it just dies,” Garcia said. “We just got to thinking: We’ve got to do something different.”
Garcia said he plans to bring in live bands and comedians and host karaoke competitions, and the occasional Wild Boys show will bring life to the bar on those dead weekend nights.

“We don’t want the negatives that can ultimately spill out into our neighborhood that are going to affect the quality of life,” Kotwicka said.
Among some of the issues the neighbors want to avoid are having men who might cause problems show up at the bar because they know a large group of women will be attending Wild Boys shows, overflow parking into the neighborhood, poor lighting at the rear of the building and elevated noise levels that will disrupt neighbors late at night, Kotwicka said.
The neighborhood representatives shared their concerns and suggestions for improvements at a recent meeting with Garcia and Smith. The business owners said they would take them into consideration.
Garcia told the Star he plans to have security on hand for bigger crowds and Wild Boys shows.
“We want gentlemen to be gentlemen, and we want ladies to be ladies,” he said.A great selection of contemporary lamps Lighting, from traditional floor lamps, energy efficient LED Floor Lamps.
Plans are to put up a sound wall to contain some of the noise and put up better lighting outside, Garcia said.
He also has plans for upgrades inside the bar, including adding a stage and lighting system and remodeling the bathrooms.
Sisters on the Fly hit the road in vintage trailers
Brawny pickups and SUVs sporting trailer hitch ball mounts and license plates from Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma pack a scrubby rock courtyard behind a picture-postcard farmhouse in Louisburg, Kan. Around front, eight camping trailers stand stem to stern in tight formation facing the open doors of a two-story white barn.

The campers are women from the region who belong to Sisters on the Fly, a national group of camping enthusiasts founded by two actual sisters who love fly-fishing in Montana. You will find modern led lights from different designers.
The sisterhood has three rules: No husbands. No pets. Be nice. The founding sisters, Maurrie Sussman and Becky Clarke, have seen their sorority of adventurers grow from a dozen in 1999 to about1,700 active members today in all 50 states and Canada.

More people can see what he saw
The remarkable art collection of the late Albert C. Barnes has been moved to a new, more appropriate home within the city that will allow thousands more visitors to see it than could have at its former suburban location.
This should be a time of celebration. And yet, some want to continue fighting the civil war over moving the art that finally had to be resolved by the courts. It’s hard for the move’s opponents to get over what transpired,You will find modern led lights from different designers. but it’s time for them to work just as hard to see that Dr. Barnes’ vision is adhered to as much as possible in his collection’s new abode.
And what an abode it is. The new museum,Pottery Barn’s floor lamps and wrought iron floor lamp feature vintage designs. designed by architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, sits on a 4.5-acre site on the north side of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The fabulous collection will be displayed in 12,000 square feet of exhibition space that replicates the scale, proportion, and configuration of the original galleries in Merion. But an improved lighting system will enable visitors to see the art in a more natural setting.
The Merion location, however,A great selection of contemporary lamps Lighting, from traditional floor lamps, energy efficient LED Floor Lamps. is not being abandoned. That very special place on North Latch’s Lane, built like a residence inside a 12-acre arboretum, which includes more than 3,000 species of woody plants and trees, will continue to house the foundation’s archives, special collections, and horticulture library, where they will be accessible by appointment.
But the foundation’s art library, with its impressive aggregation of materials that give greater relevance to the Barnes collection, will now be open to the public in the new Parkway location. Art students and others will have much greater access to the more than 4,000 books, periodicals, and other resources on art, art history, visual literacy, conservation, art education, and other subjects.
That certainly seems like what Barnes, who died in 1951, would want, though many who knew him — and others who did not — say that’s not so. They base their belief on a will that was written when Philadelphia was a different city. Is it possible that, were Barnes alive today, he might have a different opinion as to the best location for his art not just to be appreciated but to serve as a learning tool?
There is good reason to believe Barnes loved the city in which he was born in 1872 — and its people. He graduated from Central High School, got his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and later made a fortune in pharmaceuticals. He established the Barnes Foundation in 1922 to promote “the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts.” That directive was to be applied to the masses, not just an elite few.
In fact, some who knew him say Barnes had little patience for elitists. He knew what it was like to be poor, having grown up in relative poverty as the son of a South Philadelphia butcher who lost an arm in the Civil War. Barnes took odd jobs as a child,Bellacor offers a large selection of マジコン for your yard or patio. including throwing newspapers along a 12-mile route before going to school each day, according to a biographer.A great selection of contemporary lamps Lighting, from traditional floor lamps, energy efficient LED Floor Lamps. Lights, cameras eyed for downtown alleys
The idea is to make the dark but much-traveled shortcuts from the new parking garage to other busy parts of downtown more appealing for pedestrians and less so for would-be criminals.
City Councilor Mary Ellen Daly O’Brien’s proposal for the city to consider installing lights in the many alleyways that lead from areas around the parking garage and downtown train station to nearby businesses, shops and restaurants was backed by her colleagues at Tuesday’s meeting.
Several councilors said the city should also consider installing video cameras in the alleys for the safety of pedestrians.
“These paved alleys are shortcuts to Washington and Wingate Street, but they are not lit,” Daly O’Brien said. “I’ve heard concerns that some women are worried about them being very dark at night. I think people would feel more comfortable if they were lit up. It’s just something I think we should consider doing for safety reasons and to make the downtown more appealing.”
Councilors agreed to ask Mayor James Fiorentini to pay for the installation of some alley lights in his new budget proposal for the fiscal year that begins July 1. The idea of using solar-powered lights was also discussed. It offers everything you need from Book scanner, outdoor lighting, to home decor and furniture.
The possibility of including video cameras in the plan was referred to the council’s Public Safety Committee for a public hearing to get input from downtown businesses and property owners.
“We passed the meals tax a few years ago with the idea that some of that money would be spent downtown to improve the area,” Councilor Colin LePage said. “This seems like a good use for some of that money.”
The mayor said he supports putting lights and video cameras in the alleys, but that he doesn’t think the city can afford to do it in the next few months.
“Probably not this summer,” Fiorentini said of lighting the alleys and installing cameras.Shop our contemporary lighting range online at Dunelm Mill, the UKs largest store for homeware and soft furnishings. Buy online today. “But it’s a good goal.
“Maybe it’s something we can use some of the parking revenue for,” he said of money the city expects to collect once paid downtown parking starts.Lighting Creations offer a wide range of led tube for your home and garden.

Most of the alleys where Daly O’Brien wants to see lights are within a two-block radius of the new garage, but she said the city should also consider installing lights in the alley that leads from the public parking lot behind The Tap restaurant to Washington Street.
Patio decor should mimic indoor living spaces
We also like to spend time on our patio at the end of the day. One of the things I love about living in Las Vegas is that we really can use our outdoor living space just about all year-round. Plus, we don’t have the bugs like we did back East.
Start by standing in your family room and looking at what elements you have. Begin with your furniture and consider how you like to relax. Feet up, sitting together, room for your pets to sit with you. Do you like a sectional, love seat or a chaise lounge versus a sofa, chair and ottoman?
Outdoor furniture has come a long way during the past few years and now can give you an indoor look. Plus, there are some wonderful soft and breathable fabrics that are comfortable, fade-, moisture- and stain-resistant and are easy to clean, which is very important in our hot, sunny and dusty environment. They are not all stiff, prickly and plastic anymore, because they are woven just like indoor fabrics and in great patterns.
As long as your patio is not exposed to direct sunlight or rain,Do solar-powered landscape lights or Lawn light really work, or are they a gimmick? don’t be afraid to use an area rug under your seating area to bring more of that family room feel to your patio. There are many inexpensive indoor rugs that you can use instead of the typical indoor/outdoor ones.
Just as you’d have in your family room, add lighting. The light from recessed cans and ceiling fans are nice, but they don’t give you the proper light if you want to relax and read your favorite book. So use table and floor lamps just like you do inside.Lighting Creations offer a wide range of led tube for your home and garden. But, I would suggest iron bases since we do get some wind. Don’t forget accent lighting to make your patio twinkle by using uplights on plants and trees.
By the way, there are fabulous faux outdoor flowering plants that look real. Pot them in dirt and you’ll never know the difference. I have some in my backyard that my mother-in-law watered every day. Bring out some of your favorite accessories to make your patio welcoming and inviting for you and your guests: frames, vases, pottery and some colorful potted plants will bring the indoors out.
Candles are wonderful for a romantic candlelit setting in the evening. But, so that you don’t end up with an interesting abstract candle design from leaving them outside, buy the battery-operated ones. Some are so good you can’t tell them from the real ones and they even have different scents.
If you didn’t place one in your landscape design, add a floor or table-top fountain. There is just something about the sound of a fountain that makes any room relaxing and serene.
Next, dress your windows and doors with fabric to add drama and soften the hard surfaces of the exterior of your home. Summer entertaining: Spend less time preparing, more time enjoying
There’s no question why summer is the best-loved season of the year: it’s all about fun, relaxation and enjoying the beautiful outdoors.Street Lights are used to outdoor lighting roadways and walkways at night. So, it follows that homeowners don’t want to waste a minute of those glorious months of sunshine. When planning traditional summer get-togethers, save time by taking steps to ensure that your outdoor spaces are as low-maintenance as possible so that the focus is on the party, rather than the prep.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of spending hours preparing your home and yard before throwing a party, whether it’s the week before or the day of the event. Focusing on outdoor living spaces ahead of time with plants and products that need minimal attention will save stress and give you more time to enjoy the season.
As summer arrives, keep these time-saving tips in mind for an outdoor environment that’s as beautiful as it is low-maintenance.
Set the stage in just one step. Having the right set-up for outdoor entertaining can take your party from standard to superb. Installing a deck provides the perfect gathering space for get-togethers but also serves as a functional area for everyday family dining. Pick plants wisely. Wilting plants can put a damper on party decor and tending finicky flowers can eat up a lot of time in the garden,Shop our contemporary lighting range online at Dunelm Mill, the UKs largest store for homeware and soft furnishings. Select varieties that are suited to the regional climate – as well as their location in the yard.Pottery Barn’s floor lamps and wrought iron Project feature vintage designs. Once you’ve decided where to place the pots and containers, head to the garden store to pick out complementary arrangements that will thrive in full sun, partial shade or full shade, depending on your unique yard. When plants are in their preferred spots, they’ll do much of the work on their own – you’ll just need to water when appropriate.
Keep it together. Since most summer gatherings involve food and beverages, it’s a good idea to keep a set of serving items that can withstand the outdoor exposure, like shatter-proof plates and drink ware. To save time and hassle when preparing for the party, keep all outdoor accessories in one place so that everything is easy to find. A bar cart can be a handy tool for keeping supplies together, and storing serving ware in airtight containers helps to keep it clean and in good condition.
Take a seat. Everyone likes to do a little lounging on those sultry summer nights, so be sure to give guests a place to relax and sit back. If your outdoor furniture has seen better days, the wide availability of durable, weather-resistant chairs, chaises and benches makes it easy to furnish a deck in low-maintenance style. For a budget-friendly option, buying new cushions and covers can add a fresh touch to existing furniture if it’s still sturdy. With today’s high-quality weather-resistant materials, preparing furniture for a party can be as easy as a quick wipe-down.
Glass menagerie on display in Millicent Library’s Rogers Room
Whimsical glass animals, hand-crafted by artisans from around the world and dating from the 19th century to the present, are a delight for children of all ages. The New Bedford Museum of Glass is pleased to present this display of more than 400 glass animals recently donated by Dr. Norman D. Stevens, retired Director of University Libraries at the University of Connecticut.
They will be on view in the Millicent Library Rogers Room through May.
Stevens and his wife Nora assembled the collection over a 30-year period. Categories represented include dogs, cats, horses, deer, birds, fish, insects,Shop our contemporary lighting range online at Dunelm Mill, the UKs largest store for homeware and soft furnishings. Most of the animals are made by a process called “lampworking,” where small rods of glass are softened in the flame of a torch and manipulated into shape. The fluid quality of the glass in its working state enables the maker to give these animals surprisingly realistic and expressive character.
Describing his collection, Dr. Stevens writes: “Shortly after my wife, Nora, and I moved to Connecticut in 1968, we developed an interest in the work of contemporary glass artists. In the early 1970s we purchased a 17″ table lamp with a yellow base and shade both of which have red feathering made by Connecticut glass artist Rich Miller. It offers everything you need from Book scanner, outdoor lighting, to home decor and furniture. We later stopped at an antiques shop and noticed a small yellow glass dog with red on his body and ears that appeared to be a companion to the lamp.
“Probably in part because we always were looking for things to entertain our three young children, I bought the dog for a dollar or two. I don’t recall ever having seen a small glass animal of any kind before that purchase. As is so often the case with collections, however, once I bought that yellow and red dog, they were everywhere. …
“As time went on I began to add larger animals, including blown glass animals and contemporary pieces from Murano, or Kosta Boda in Sweden, or by contemporary American glass artists. I also sought out unusual pieces like the lampworked circus clown holding out a hoop for a small dog to jump through. The collection eventually included more than 1,000 examples. …
“Recently we decided that it was time to find a new home for the collection, and,Lighting Creations offer a wide range of led tube for your home and garden. when a friend told us he had donated his glass paperweights to the New Bedford Museum of Glass, I contacted the museum director and offered our glass animals. Microsemi Unveils Ultra-fast-startup LED Driver for Linear Lighting Fixtures
Microsemi Corporation MSCC +0.14% , a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today unveiled a new dimmable LED driver module optimized for worldwide residential, commercial and industrial light fixtures.
The 30 watt (W) LXMG221W-0700030-D0(TM) LED driver enables start up times of 150 milliseconds (ms) or faster, closely emulating the “lights-on” performance of a typical incandescent lamp.Extensive range of handcrafted T5 tube, unique designs in forged iron, natural brass, nickel and hand blown glass. This is important for home and business applications where light start-up delays are unacceptable. Microsemi’s new ENERGY STAR-compliant, solid state LED driver provides over voltage and current protection, as well as automatic over-temperature shutdown to facilitate reliable and safe operation.
According to estimates from industry analyst firm Strategies Unlimited, the commercial, industrial and residential LED fixture market approached $3 billion in 2011,Pottery Barn’s floor lamps and wrought iron Project feature vintage designs. excluding lamp replacement fixtures. The total LED fixture market is expected to increase at a compound annual revenue growth rate of approximately 20 percent from 2011 to 2016.
“The adoption of regulations imposing a phase-out of inefficient incandescent lamps is driving the growth of alternative light sources including energy-efficient LEDs globally,” stated Irene Signorino, director of business development at Microsemi. “Our new LED driver allows light fixture manufacturers to capitalize on this growing market opportunity.Shop our contemporary lighting range online at Dunelm Mill, the UKs largest store for homeware and soft furnishings. Power-efficient LED lights are becoming increasingly popular for use in homes and businesses alike. However, the energy-savings benefits often don’t outweigh the instant-lighting performance that people have come to expect from incandescent lights in such applications. Microsemi’s new LED driver solves this issue by delivering a 150ms or shorter startup time that is not noticeable by the human eye. This attribute, coupled with the device’s form factor and power/current levels, makes it ideal for use in areas where “instant-on” lighting is required or expected.
